AgForce, in partnership with AgEtal, has developed an on-farm DIY DNA-based test kit for detecting Leifsonia xyli xyli (LXX), the bacterium responsible for Ratoon Stunting Disease (RSD) in sugarcane. RSD can lead to significant yield losses of up to 60%, and as there is no treatment once infection occurs, prevention through early detection and strict hygiene measures is critical. This user-friendly, colour-change test allows growers to quickly identify infected cane, helping them make informed planting and management decisions without relying on external laboratory testing.

How to Order the RSD Test Kit 

  1. Fill in the order form online and save 

  2. Email the completed form to Hilary 

  3. Payment is required before dispatch. You can pay via credit card or request an invoice—please ensure you check the correct box on the order form. 

  4. Watch the training videos before use: 

    1. Hygiene and safety   

    2. Micropipette handling   

    3. RSD Assay  

  5. Upon receiving your kit: Immediately transfer the freezer package to the freezer and the fridge package to the refrigerator. 

  6. Read all written instructions carefully before beginning testing.
