AgForce Queensland is proud to announce its participation in this year’s National Ag Day celebrations, an annual event dedicated to acknowledging the immense contributions of agriculture to Australia’s economy, culture, and community. On Thursday, 14 November, AgForce will join the festivities at the City Markets in Cathedral Square, Brisbane.

This special day highlights the pivotal role of agriculture in feeding and sustaining the nation, with more than 85,000 farm businesses across the country playing a crucial role in producing fresh food, fibre, and other essential commodities. AgForce, a peak body representing the interests of Queensland's primary producers, invites city residents and visitors to experience firsthand the spirit of the rural sector.

For the past three years, AgForce has been committed to raising awareness of National Ag Day within the city. To celebrate this occasion, AgForce will set up a stall at the City Markets, offering fun and educational giveaways. Visitors can look forward to receiving seedlings, snacking carrots, and sunflowers—symbols of growth, health, and sustainability. These thoughtful gifts are designed to help urban residents connect with the origins of Australia’s food supply and highlight the vital role of supporting local agriculture.

“National Ag Day is more than just a celebration; it’s a recognition of the dedication and resilience of our farmers and agricultural communities. It’s also a reminder that behind every meal and every product we use, there is a story of hard work and innovation,” said Georgie Somerset, General President at AgForce. “We’re excited to share this story and celebrate with Brisbane at Cathedral Square.”

Adding to the excitement, Brisbane will ‘light up’ green on the evening of 15 November in a spectacular show of support for National Ag Day. Iconic landmarks including the Story Bridge, Victoria Bridge, Reddacliff Place, and the Tropical Dome will be illuminated in green to symbolize the city’s commitment to agriculture and recognize the efforts of farmers and agricultural workers.

National Ag Day, spearheaded by National Farmers Federation (https://agday.org.au/), is a time for Australians to appreciate the role agriculture plays in their everyday lives. Whether you are directly involved in the sector or a consumer benefiting from its outputs, the day is an opportunity to reflect on and support the continued success and sustainability of the industry.

AgForce encourages everyone to visit the City Markets on 14 November, learn more about agriculture, and celebrate this essential industry that sustains not just Australia but contributes significantly on a global scale. Come down, grab a sunflower, snack on a fresh carrot, and join the celebration of National Ag Day with AgForce. And on the 15th, look up and see Brisbane glowing in green in honour of the day.
