The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is pleased to share that heavy vehicle compliance in Queensland has officially transferred from the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
On Saturday April 20, the responsibility for heavy vehicle regulatory services shifted to the NHVR, marking the end of a significant reform program, and a step forward for industry, who now have a single point of interaction for consistent and reliable information about the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL).
The transition of services is set to result in productivity and safety benefits for industry. The NHVR’s Safety and Compliance Officers will be working roadside and at inspection sites across the state, delivering an inform, educate and enforce approach to Queensland roads.
The NHVR’s on-road officers have authority to stop heavy vehicles and check compliance against the HVNL, including mass, dimension, load restraint, vehicle standards, access conditions, driver fatigue and work diaries, as well some state requirements like dangerous goods, licensing and registration.
The NHVR’s new operations head office is located in Townsville, boosting compliance and improving road safety outcomes in North Queensland. The NHVR has 14 new home base locations across Queensland, and has been pleased to welcome new staff, many who have transferred from TMR, to the properties.
