Cane commodity events

Central Queensland Member Run 25 November 2024 to 28 November 2024 - more details to come. 

Cane Board meetings

  • The Cane Board met on 11 November 2024. The board have approved progression of an “Ag Sugar Industry Tour”, to seek improved outcomes for the sugar industry. 
  • AgForce Cane Members held a General Meeting on 30 October 2024, following its 6th Annual AGM. 
    • Members discussed alternative “purpose use” for water perils reserves, including asset investment or a fighting fund. 
    • Members can expect surveys and input of ideas for water perils reserve in due course. 
  • The next meeting of cane board directors is NOT yet set.
    • Any members with local area concerns, please raise these directly with your cane board – so they can be addressed. 

 

AgCarE onsite visits in Ayr Office

AgForce Cane member policy, advocacy and submissions
Submissions:

  • APVMA - Chemical Use - Paraquat & Diquat Review: AgForce has lodged an industry stakeholder Submission to APVMA (Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority) working to ensure this vital chemical remains available for cane members and industry use. Link can be found here
  • AgForce has made a submission to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s (NHVR) Draft Heavy Vehicle Productivity Plan (2024-2029).
  • Nature Repair Market (Nature Repair Market - DCCEEW) - The fraught notion of 'protecting 30% of Australia's land and sea by 2030’ AND the impact on members’ agricultural business, environmental reporting, and food security for our nation are at stake. 
  • National Transport Commission (NTC) has been working towards a range of amendments to the HVNL and associated Regulations. Public consultation on the HVNL legislation and regulation amendment package has now commenced and is open for submissions until 21 November 2024. We seek your feedback to this matter. 

AgForce Supporting Members:

  • Renewable Liquid Fuels – AgForce Cane seeks the Government’s assistance to facilitate a feedstock strategy and the development of renewable liquid fuel and sustainable aviation fuel refineries along regional coastal areas at source feedstock locations.
  • Transport – AgForce working with stakeholder to improve road transport access and quality of roads. Including, collaborating with NHVR on Heavy vehicle – Haul-out & Harvester Road-user compliance and how we can improve outcomes for members. 
  • Reef - Compliance and audit requirements: AgForce is working with departments and members to inform and educate our members to ensure they continue to meet reef audit requirement and are aware of their rights and obligations. The latest reef requirements are on the AgForce website here
  • Burdekin Regional Water Assessment – ongoing stakeholder engagement, working to ensure access to water into the future for agricultural sector. 
  • Competition in Markets – AgForce seeks to promote competitive markets and policy, reform to mergers and acquisition, and support measures to correct the market power imbalance within Australian supply chains and other (big) businesses, such as those caused by monopolies, duopolies and oligopolies.   
  • AgForce Clean Cane Seed Farm Committee continues to improve structures to support management Cane Seed Farms.

AgForce is activity representing the Cane industry as it positions policy at local, state and national level to assist in viable outcomes for the sector. 

Water Policy

AgForce Cane engaged in the:

  • Burdekin Regional Water Assessment Plan
  • The Burdekin Water Basin Plan Review
  • The Burdekin Rising Ground Water – Project Strategy

Energy Policy 

AgForce cane continues to participate in the: 

  • Energy Queensland and Agricultural forums
  • The land use protections committee is representing us on the Ag Energy Task Force – looking at renewable energy zones. 

Reef Policy 

AgForce cane is participating in the: 

  • REEF 2022 Scientific Consensus Statement (SCS) – Report released 1 August 2024
  • REEF 2050 – WQIP – Water Quality Improvement Plan – Review

AgCarE Policy 

AgForce Cane continues to participate toward an efficient AgCarE Cane module, seeking to improve on existing GHG (Carbon) calculations, sequestration rate formula, toward an internationally recognised best practice model amongst stakeholders. 

AgForce Cane Board seek to establish a working group to progress the fine tuning of AgCarE Cane Module.
