AgForce 25 Year Anniversary Celebration - Burdekin

Great night had by all in the Burdekin on Tuesday night, 50 producers joined AgForce staff and incoming and outgoing elected representatives to celebrate 25 years of AgForce and 6 years of AgForce Cane.

Corporate partner Ben Waters from FTI consulting joined us to discuss succession and business planning. AgForce members get an hour free of Bens time as part of their membership which is well worth taking up.

Casie Scott from NBN joined us to talk connectivity upgrades in the region.

It was great to also be join by other corporate partners WFI and Isuzu who both offer exceptional deals to AgForce members.

AgForce Cane AGM

This year's 6th Cane AGM went off without a hitch, with a great roll out of members.

Outgoing Cane President, Russell Hall, ran the meeting and introduced his successor Chris Punzell, who will take the reins of the Cane Board in two weeks after the AgForce AGM.

Our New AgForce President-Elect, Shane McCarthy, also attended the meeting and his successor for North Regional Director, Michael Penna.

Workforce Connect Fund – up to $5,000 for HR support and advice

This is a quick and easy way to get $5000 for anything to do with HR.

One of our members recently put us onto this fund; Vincents Lawyers helped them to submit a successful application.

Eligible activities:
•    Engaging with HR specialists to receive advice and coaching to improve workforce issues.
•    Specialised recruitment strategies or practices to attract and retain underutilised or specific cohorts.
•    New workforce systems or tools that promote human resource support and resources accessible to employees and change the current workforce operations of a business.
•    Other new and innovative approaches that support workforce attraction, retention or participation.

To access this funding, you must engage with an Industry Workforce Advisor and developed a Workforce Plan. The Industry Workforce Advisor for Agriculture and Horticulture is Kym Wessling at the Queensland Farmers' Federation: kym@qff.org.au, mob 0427 576 602.

This funding is currently advertised on the Qld Govt Grants website (see the PDF guidelines file) and is also being advertised by Vincents Lawyers in Brisbane.

Applications will be accepted up until 30 June 2025 or until the $1 million of funds available are exhausted (whichever is sooner).

On-Farm Connectivity Program

Up to a $30,000 rebate (matching dollar for dollar) for on-farm connectivity — for connected machinery and sensor technology, to assist primary producers to take advantage of digital agribusiness solutions to boost productivity, improve safety and drive more sustainable farming practices.

  • Supplier expressions of interest closed on 29 September; they are currently being assessed; about twice as many supplier EOIs as in Round 1.
  • If any suppliers are approaching you saying they are approved suppliers for Round 2, they’re wrong. The Commonwealth have explicitly said all suppliers will be notified at the same time whether they are approved for Round 2, and that hasn’t happened yet.
  • Applications to Approved Suppliers will open later in the year – no later than mid-late November.
  • Applications to be compiled mostly by Approved Suppliers with input from producers (you).

Regional Tech Hub ran a webinar on this last Thursday 17 October at 11am to 12pm – it was recorded and will be available online via the Regional Tech Hub soon.
