Wednesday, 22 Aug 2018

Central Queensland cattle producers wanting to learn more about the latest industry research and development are encouraged to attend a free forum at Central Queensland University and the Belmont Research Station near Rockhampton next week.

AgForce Central Queensland Regional President John Baker said the Rockhampton multi-topic day would include sessions with researchers, industry experts and Queensland Department of Agriculture officials.

“Cattle producers will have the opportunity to see first-hand the work underway at the AgForce-owned Belmont Research Station with Professor Dave Swain from Central Queensland University on hand to showcase the Centre of Excellence research and development programs,” he said.

“Attendees will also learn more about the best ways to transfer their family farms from one generation to the next during a succession planning session and receive updates on biosecurity and local cattle diseases.

“Many producers have told us they have had difficulties with some of the new audit requirements for the Livestock Production Assurance program so we’ve invited an industry expert to come along to provide tips and advice.

“Producers will get an update on export distribution hubs and meat processing viability, with the day concluding with a cattle policy update and panel discussion with AgForce elected representatives.

“It promises to be an interesting and informative day aimed at getting producers looking at challenges they face and ideas that can help them take their business forward.”

The forum, funded through the State Government’s Community Drought Support Program, will start at the CQU Rockhampton North Campus at 9.30am on Tuesday 28 August 2018 and move to Belmont Research Station from 11.30am through to 6pm.

The forum is free but registrations are essential via and more information is available from AgForce Central Queensland Regional Manager Julie Sheehan on 0427 021 370.
