Grains Gala Dinner in Toowoomba to celebrate industry achievements

The who’s who of the grains industry will gather in Toowoomba next month for a gala dinner and industry tour to celebrate the sector’s successes and highlight opportunities for future growth.

AgForce Grains President and Dalby grain grower Wayne Newton said the Queensland Grains Gala Dinner was the industry’s ‘night of nights’ and he encouraged anyone with an interest in the industry to join the celebrations at Clifford Park Racecourse in Toowoomba on Friday night 20 July.

“While this year has been challenging due to a lack of rain in many growing areas and India’s decision to impose a tariff on chickpeas, the Queensland grains industry has a strong future with new technologies and research transforming the way we farm,” he said.

“The Queensland Grains Gala Dinner is a fabulous event where everyone with an interest in the industry – plant breeders, researchers/scientists, suppliers, consultants, producers, traders and buyers – can come together in one place for one night to celebrate grains.”

Mr Newton said the gala dinner would be the culmination of a big two days for the grains industry with the AgForce Grains Board meeting on Thursday 19 July and a research-focused industry tour also planned for Friday 20 July.

“Tour participants will visit a seed testing lab, a grain farm and the Hermitage Research Station to look at sorghum and pulse breeding, as well as trials around on-farm storage and fumigation,” he said.

“With such strong prices for feed grains and with market shocks coming out of India, on-farm storage has never been more important, and the industry tour will highlight what growers need to know to make the most from their crops.”

Mr Newton thanked all the sponsors who helped make the event possible including Vanderfield (Diamond), GrainCorp, NAB Agribusiness, Telstra, Wideland Ag and Construction, Crowe Howarth (Platinum), IOR Petroleum, Ritchie Bros. (Gold), Farmarco and Port of Brisbane (Silver).

He also thanked the Grains Research and Development Corporation for sponsoring the industry tour.
