Monday, 23 Apr 2018

Soapbox sessions on boosting beef businesses, a seminar on sustainability and a Cattle Kids Calf Classroom are among the events AgForce will host during Beef Australia 2018 in Rockhampton next month.

AgForce General President Grant Maudsley said Australia's national beef expo was one of the world's great beef cattle events, attracting more than 90,000 people over the course of the week.

"Queensland produces almost half of Australia's beef and this event provides an opportunity to celebrate our local industry, facilitate new export and trade opportunities and learn more about the latest research, developments and trends throughout the world," he said.

"AgForce will have a team of staff and producer elected representatives at our site throughout the week and will host a series of soapbox sessions on issues such as Grazing BMP, property mapping, biosecurity, Pimelea research, vegetation management and oversized transport.

"We're also pleased to have Nicole Johnson-Hoffman, who is the Senior Vice President of one of the biggest food suppliers in the world – the United States-based OSI Group, as our guest for the week.

"Ms Johnson-Hoffman, along with NAB's Manager of Natural Value James Bentley, will speak about sustainability and the global beef supply chain in a seminar that promises to provide great insights into where the beef industry is heading internationally."

Mr Maudsley said Beef Australia attendees would have the opportunity to tour AgForce's Belmont Research Station and AgForce's School to Industry Partnerships Program (SIPP) team would be on hand to highlight the many opportunities for careers in agriculture.

"There will be an interactive education space – the Cattle Kids Calf Classroom - for the thousands of children attending the event with a range of puzzles, activities and displays, while the SIPP team will also host a professional development session for teachers," he said.

"In addition, AgForce will have a range of industry experts and businesses at our site including a rural property valuer, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator Stakeholder Specialist and representatives from Telstra, WFI, AustSafe Super and IOR Petroleum.

"It promises to be a busy and interesting week showcasing the best our beef industry has to offer."

Beef Australia 2018 runs from 6 – 12 May 2018, with the majority of the events taking place at the Rockhampton Showgrounds.
