CQ workshops to focus on drones, digital data and disaster resilience
Monday, 19 Feb 2018

Building farm resilience by using digital mapping and drone technology will be on the agenda at a series of free workshops being co-ordinated by AgForce throughout Central Queensland in early March.

AgForce Industry Recovery and Resilience Officer Noel Brinsmead said it was nearly a year since Cyclone Debbie struck and caused almost half a billion dollars in damage to the state's agricultural industries.

"Natural disasters are unavoidable in Queensland, but what we are seeking to do through these workshops is help ensure farmers are well-prepared and have greater resilience to cope with what the weather may throw at us," he said.

"The workshops in Central Queensland will have a particular emphasis on farmers using digital mapping applications to get a good understanding of the lay of their land and water flows.

"Managing Director of DataFarming, Tim Neale, will be the key note speaker throughout the week discussing how digital data analysis can be used to build resilience and improve farm productivity, while there will also be drone demonstrations and training in how best to use this technology.

"It provides an opportunity for farmers to learn new skills to help improve their business now and into the future."

The workshops will also include a discussion on maintaining and improving natural capital for future generations, grains updates from the AgForce Grains Policy Director and the Port of Gladstone, and safety presentations from Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and Ergon Energy.

The workshops are free and will run from 9am to 3.30pm in:
•    Capella, Monday 5 March
•    Emerald, Tuesday 6 March
•    Springsure, Wednesday 7 March
•    Biloela, Thursday 8 March and
•    Duaringa, Friday 9 March.

Anyone wishing to attend can find out more and register online at http://bit.ly/2ElrZqf with venues confirmed via email the week prior to the workshop.

The workshops are funded under the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Cyclone Debbie Agricultural Recovery and Resilience Project.
