Enough is enough: Pass 15% backpacker tax and move on

AgForce has added its voice to the chorus of condemnation of the Senate shenanigans on the backpacker tax, calling for the 15 per cent compromise rate to be passed.

AgForce General President Grant Maudsley said the backpacker tax stalemate had gone on far too long and Queensland farmers just wanted the issue resolved once and for all.

"Like all Australians, Queensland farmers have had enough of the political ping pong on the backpacker tax," he said.

"From where this all started at a disastrous rate of 32.5 per cent, the 15 per cent compromise rate is a reasonable outcome.

"The 15 per cent compromise rate is fair, internationally competitive and recognizes the unique nature of seasonal work.

"The 15 per cent compromise rate is also equivalent to the rate currently paid by those on the Seasonal Worker Program.

"Enough is enough. It's time common sense prevailed. We need this issue resolved so everyone can move on from a debate that has been and continues to be so damaging for our agricultural and tourism industries."
