AgForce's popular School Industry Partnership Program will continue to
Feed Your Future at the Rotary FNQ Field Day at Mareeba showgrounds today.
AgForce
School Industry Liaison Officer Ali Briggs said the event was another
great opportunity to connect students with agriculture careers.
"A
full day of careers and information activities for Tablelands high
school students is showing the opportunities and diversity of careers
offered by agriculture," Ms Briggs said.
"Local high school
students are taking part in interactive sessions with a range of
agriculture professionals in farming, science, banking and media.
"They
will hear about the opportunities for working in agriculture and how to
train, study and succeed in the many exciting and rewarding career
opportunities available in the sector."
More than 5000 students and 400 teachers take part in SIPP activities every year.
In Mareeba, the AgForce SIPP team is working with Mareeba District Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association.
"A
key activity will challenging each student to visit specific exhibitors
across the field day and obtain answers to a series of career-related
questions," Ms Briggs said.
"This will challenge their
communication skills and give them a chance to briefly meet and chat to
industry participants among the range of exhibitors."
AgForce
training manager, Peter Smith said AgForce and the Department of
Agriculture are working to raise the profile of agriculture careers
targeting high school students with a range of events across the state.
The AgForce SIPP project is funded by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. For the latest information visit
