National Farmers’ Federation and AgForce to launch Federal election campaign in Rocky
Wednesday, 24 Apr 2019

With Queensland looming as a key battleground in the upcoming Federal election, the National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) has chosen Rockhampton, Australia’s beef capital, to launch its national election campaign on Monday, 29 April.

A number of key marginal seats in Queensland could end up having a significant impact on the result on 18 May.

The launch of the Agriculture: Growing Australia 2019 Federal Election Priorities campaign at the iconic Criterion Hotel in Rocky has been co-organised with AgForce, an NFF member.

The launch will also give local candidates from all political parties their first chance to openly debate issues of importance to agriculture.

AgForce General President Georgie Somerset, who will be speaking at the event alongside NFF Chief Executive Tony Mahar, said AgForce had been campaigning hard to represent the interests of people living in rural and regional Queensland.

“We will be telling all sides of politics that delivering on our policy priorities will drive growth in agriculture, create more jobs for Queenslanders and boost our rural and regional communities,” Mrs Somerset said.

The NFF campaign launch is a major event in AgForce’s election campaign, representing an opportunity to raise awareness of its own ‘election asks’ of Government,
  • Creating connected communities
  • Ensuring practical, science-based environmental regulation for healthy environments
  • Empowering producers to deal with climate risk
  • Developing market opportunities for agricultural products, including live cattle exports
“I would encourage all AgForce members, and their friends and family in the area, to get along to Rocky on Monday the 29th to show their support for our national peak body and remind everyone what a great state Queensland is,” Mrs Somerset said.

“With so many key seats in rural and regional communities up north and out west, if politicians ignore the issues central to agriculture it might just cost them the election.”
