Great Artesian Basin - a significant water resource

Water pressure in the Great Artesian Basin (GAB) has declined in many areas leading to a reduction/loss of access to a significant water resource across Australia’s rangelands. Action is required to reverse the continuing fall in artesian pressures in many parts of the Basin and reduce current wastage of water.

Government intervention is necessary to encourage changes in the practices and technology required for sustainable management (many water users are unable to finance the necessary capital investment).

Therefore, AgForce supports funding for the rehabilitation or replacement of artesian bores in all areas.
